The History of
Calvary Baptist Church
Calvary Baptist Church was founded on June 2, 1985. The Church was originally located in Hyde Park. Experiencing much growth, we moved from our rented location and purchased the 42 Needham St. property in Dedham in 1991. At that same time Calvary Baptist Church merged with Faith Baptist Church also of Dedham.
Our church continues to minister to people from all walks of life. The Lord has blessed us with many people from different cultures and backgrounds. At Calvary Baptist we offer "one-on-one" discipleship, men's and women's Bible studies, children's ministries, teen ministry, a special needs children's ministry, as well as opportunities to fellowship together as a means of encouraging and exhorting one another.
The church's statement of purpose is summarized in our motto -
"A Caring Church for a Caring Lord"
This statement is based upon the following verses, and can be fulfilled by caring for our Lord, others and one another within this body by faithfulness and obedience to these three scriptures.
Matthew 22:36-40
"Master, which is the great commandment in the law? [37] Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. [38] This is the first and great commandment. [39] And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself. [40] On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."
John 15:12
"This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I loved you."
Matthew 28:19-20
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
